Questions & answers

Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions.

Is the Express Box System a quick test or a self-test?
No.

A self-test is a test that is carried out at the client's home (e.g. urine pregnancy test strips from the drugstore). Corona self-tests are currently not approved in Germany.

The Ingenium Express Box is not a test per se, but only a sample collection set. The test is performed in an accredited German laboratory using a molecular biological method (so-called RT-PCR), which is the gold standard for the detection of acute corona infection. Thus the test is neither a self-test nor a rapid test.

When is my test result available?
Usually no later than the evening of the working day after picking up your Express Box.

Example: The Express Box is picked up on Thursday. The result is usually available by Friday evening at the latest.

How do I find out my test result?
You will be informed by us via e-mail as soon as the medical test result is available. Using your personal activation code and your chosen password, you can view it on our website and print it out on request.

What does a negative test result mean?
It means that there is a high probability that you were not acutely ill with Covid-19 on the day of the test and were not contagious.

What does a positive test result mean and what should I do?
Please go into home quarantine for 14 days. This also applies to people living in your household. In case of an infection, please actively inform the people in your environment and, if possible, enter the result in the Corona-App. The health office responsible for you will contact you to discuss further details.

What should I do if the test could not be performed?
If faulty (e.g. contaminated by leftover food or toothpaste) or incomplete (e.g. sample tube is missing or has leaked) sample material was sent to the laboratory, the test cannot be performed professionally. You will be notified of this. In this case please contact our hotline.

Who besides the employee receives the test result?
Basically nobody. Because the test result is subject to medical confidentiality and the basic data protection regulation (DSGVO).

If the employee has an agreement with the employer, the test result can also be confidentially communicated to the responsible company doctor.

If the test result is positive, we are obliged (§§ 6,7,8 Infection Protection Act) to report this immediately to your responsible health office, stating the name and address of the employee.

How long can the Express Box be used?
The Express Box can be used up to 6 months after its delivery date. This enables us to use the Express Box beyond the cold period.

Is sampling by gargling as reliable as sampling with cotton swabs?
Yes.

Research conducted under the direction of Prof. Drosten (Charité, Berlin) showed that SARS-CoV-2 multiplies in the throat area and can be detected there very sensitively with a smear1. Current studies2,3,4,5 now prove that the corona virus can also be detected very reliably in throat lavage fluid obtained by gargling. In fact, there are many indications that the gargle test is the more sensitive method for detecting SARS-CoV-2 than the swab with cotton swabs. This seems plausible, since during gargling virus is collected from the entire mouth and throat area, but during collection with cotton swabs virus is only collected selectively. The gargle test is currently tested at several universities in Austria and abroad and is already used in many places in Austria. In our laboratories the method validation in the throat rinsing liquid has also been successfully performed.

Is sample collection by gargling safe?
Yes.

However, this should be avoided because of possible infection.
